Slate Blue Blazer

Slate Blue Blazer

I recently finished a brown corduroy skirt which is embroidered with slate blue flowers. My original idea was to pair the skirt with a matching slate blue jacket.

The skirt is finished, however it didn’t turn out the way I’d expected. (Note to self: Corduroy and a flared skirt pattern simply don’t mix!) I’m going to have to remake it into a pencil skirt, and who knows when I’ll get around to doing that. But, the weather is still cool, so I’d like to consider making the jacket, to be worn with dark-wash jeans or brown pants.

Patterns & Materials
I would use Simplicity (Project Runway) 2810 for the jacket, and perhaps mix and match the collar from Simplicity (Project Runway) 2728. I love the tied collar, but I prefer 2810’s jacket, because it’s more fitted and has a proper two-piece coat sleeve, instead of a generic one-piece sleeve. I’ve used the pattern before, I’ve made all the necessary alterations, I know it fits well. In fact, it’s my first TnT (Tried ‘n’ True) pattern.

I have a pretty slate blue sateen that matches the embroidery in the skirt, and I have ordered a dark brown “China silk” polyester lining, which should arrive tomorrow. The brown lining will help the jacket to coordinate with the skirt.

Additionally, I might take some of the leftover corduroy and cut out a few of the embroidered flowers and make them into a three-dimensional pin, to attach to the lapel of the jacket. Although, if I do that, it might look better with a traditional collar, rather than the fancy tied collar, I don’t know.

What do you think—should I go ahead and make the jacket? Which collar should I use, one with plain lapels, or the one with the tie? Should I add a pin made of the embroidered flowers?
