Tuition Policy FAQ

As of June 15, 2015, Yesterday’s Thimble has implemented new tuition and scheduling policies. To sum up the changes:

  • Tuition Policy—Classes are now paid for on a monthly basis.
  • Scheduling Policy—New students will begin classes the first week of the month.

What does this mean? Instead of paying for each class individually, you’ll pay tuition on a monthly basis. Once you’ve paid for the upcoming month, you’re committed to four or five classes, depending on how many weeks are in that particular month.

Tuition pays for your enrollment in classes, regardless of whether you actually attend or not. If you cannot attend a class, you’ll need to reschedule it. Refunds will not be given for skipped classes.

For more information, see the FAQ, below.

Note: Currently enrolled students are exempt from the new policy and may continue to pay on a week-by-week basis. However, in appreciation for your cooperation, if you switch over, you’ll be given a discount on your first two months’ tuition. See the FAQ (below) for more details.

FAQ

  • When do classes start?

For new students, classes begin the first week of every month. Please register ahead of time, so you’ll have plenty of time to complete your paperwork and schedule your shopping class.

  • When is payment due?

For new students, payment is due on the first day of the month your classes begin. (e.g.: If your first class will be August 4th, tuition is due on August 1st.) After that, tuition is due at the final class of each month. (e.g.: You’ll pay September’s fee when you attend the last class of August.) If you cannot make that class, you’ll need to mail or drop off your payment before the first of the month.

  • What is each month’s tuition fee?

One-hour classes: $150 per month.

Two-hour classes: $260 per month.

  • How do you determine the tuition fees?

Class fees are averaged. So, instead of adjusting your tuition based on whether a particular month has four weeks or five, you’ll pay the same rate each month, regardless of how many weeks that month has.

Here’s the math for a two-hour class:

$60 per class multiplied by 52 weeks in the year =  $3,120 per year

$3,120 divided by 12 months in the year = $260 per month

  • How do the new prices compare with the old fees?

Class fees have increased slightly. However, we now offer a discount for two-hour classes, which means the tuition for a two-hour class remains the same as before.

  • How much is the shopping class?

Your very first class usually takes place at the fabric store, where I’ll help you choose a pattern and supplies for your first project. (For more details, please see the Student FAQ.) This is separate from your regular classes and doesn’t fall under the monthly tuition schedule. The fee for a one-hour shopping class is $30, due at the class.

  • Suppose I need to cancel a class?

Canceled classes will be rescheduled for a different day, at your convenience. Kindly give at least 24-hours notice! Refunds will not be given for skipped classes, so make sure you reschedule.

  • What if I’m going out of town?

If you know you’re going to be absent, please notify me ahead of time. We’ll reschedule, so you don’t miss any classes.

  • What if you (the teacher) miss a class?

It doesn’t happen often, but occasionally, I’ll need to cancel a class. I’ll provide as much advance notice as I can, and the missed class will be rescheduled.

  • What if I’m late for class?

Classes begin promptly at the scheduled time. If you’re going to be more than ten minutes late, please call and let me know. If my schedule allows, I’ll be happy to extend your class, to make up the missed time—but this isn’t always possible. Refunds will not be given for tardiness!

  • What if I need to take a break from classes?

If you need to temporarily stop attending classes, I can hold your appointment time in reserve for up to four weeks. If you’re gone longer than that, I cannot guarantee that you’ll be able to resume classes on the same day and time.

  • What if I need to quit taking classes?

Please notify me at least two weeks before discontinuing your classes. There’s no penalty for quitting, but please note that by paying your monthly tuition, you’re committing to a month’s worth of classes. Refunds will not be given to students who decide to quit before the end of the month.

  • What if I want to take an extra class?

Additional classes are available at the following rates:

One-hour class—$35

Two-hour class—$60

  • I’m currently enrolled in classes, paying week-by-week. Must I switch to the new tuition plan?

Current students are exempt from the new policy. I do, however, encourage you to comply with the new arrangement. There’s a reward for doing so!

  • What if I want to participate in the new tuition plan?

In gratitude for your cooperation, you’ll receive the following discount on your first two months’ tuition:

One-hour class—$10 discount

Two-hour class—$20 discount
